Selection 2003+

CTBTO: BITNET participates to the Hughes Network Systems project concerning the upgrade of the global satellite communication network that supports CTBTO the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (February 2006).

DOG: A preparatory project supporting the development of the first Romanian satellite survey facility. STATUS: Contracted in the framework of the national Security Research Program (October 2005).

TWISTER: Bitnet signed an agreement with EADS Astrium and Aramiska for the deployment of the TWISTER network in Romania. TWISTER (Terrestrial Wireless Infrastructure integrated with Satellite Telecommunications for E-Rural) is funded under FP6 and mobilizes some of Europe's leading expertise in the area with an overall budget of M€ 8.5, of which M€ 5 is funded by the European Commission (October 2005).

HOTSAT: a joint project that will explore satellite hotspot technologies and their applications. Satellite hotspot technologies allow users to access broadband multimedia satellite services using a cheap wi-fi card.
STATUS: contracted in the framework of the CEEX program (October 2005)

GOLIAT: BITNET signed a contract with the Romanian Space Agency for participation to the GOLIAT project. GOLIAT is the first microsatellite that will be built and operated by Romania.
STATUS: contracted (October 2005)

SCANSAT: A multi-band radio telescope for satellite detection and broadcasts analysis. The radio telescope will be developed by BITNET in 2005 and will be operated by an Astronomical Observatory of the Romanian Academy.
STATUS: contracted with the Romanian Space Agency, in the framework of AEROSPACE program (November 2004).

PORTASAT: A joint development project targeting the development of satellite telecom applications for the Romanian building industry. Supported by the AMTRANS program. Project webpage.
STATUS: contracted in December 2003.

TELSAT: A joint research project targeting the development of a facility that will disseminate through a satellite platform regional real-time data concerning vegetation indexes and meteo. The project will be supported through the Romanian AEROSPACE program and private companies.
STATUS: contracted in October 2003.

OPENSKY Romania: An international consortium agreement focusing on the development of Opensky satellite services in Romania.
STATUS: operational since September 2003.

DIRECWAY Romania: An international consortium agreement focusing on the development of DIRECWAY satellite services in Romania.
STATUS: operational since September 2003.

STAR: A contracted joint research project focused on the development of a highly automatic facility for real-time monitoring Romania's environment through satellites belonging to the North American Earth Observing System and the future European GMES.  First scheduled applications: second part of 2003. The project is supported through the Romanian AEROSPACE program. A short description of this project can be found here. Only Romanian version available.
